But if it makes you uncomfortable, just bring it up non-confrontationally and say, hey if you don’t mind I prefer PattiCakes1216., but you can call me Pat if you like (or something to that effect). As long as it’s not derogatory, like using honey, or sweetie, or sugar, more than likely it’s just that he doesn’t remember your name. Using colloquial names is like, man, a pretty common thing dude. Listen, pal, don’t overthink the situation, okay chief. My gut feeling is he is trying to detach/ create distance but i could absolutely be over analyzing the situation. I asked my male coworker what he thought and he said it was bizarre behavior not only for a guy but him in particular. I dont want to assume any ill intentions because he is super nice with everyone in my company but our last interaction, his wife and child were with him and like clock work he would call me buddy if I was near.l or if they approached me. But in the last couple of months he has switched from greeting me by my name to buddy. He knows who I am and what my name is since I started working for my company 6 years ago. Maybe 3 times a year- for a golf tournament, my company’s charity event and a lunch his company hosts for us. We dont work closely nor do we see each other in industry events on a frequent basis. I (32f) have been getting called “buddy” from a banking business partner (40m) whenever he greets me now and im not sure why.
