![]() The original Parallax were among the most sought-after one-piece, cast steel cavity back irons of their generation and the 2017 model retains much of those qualities – with a modern spin. While renowned strokemakers Freddie Couples and Ernie Els wielded Parallax irons to Masters and US Open wins, this year’s collection boasts features and technology purposely designed for mid to higher handicap club and casual golfers.Ĭompared to those famous Parallax irons first seen in 1991, today’s golfers will notice a wide sole and generous cavity back, which combine to minimise the chances of the front edge digging deep into the turf, provide high levels of forgiveness on off-centre strikes and get the ball airborne with ease. Now a British company, Lynx has repositioned the Parallax family of clubs within its main portfolio. The soundhole runs through a distortion pedal and the piezo goes clean, sounds great! I'd really recommend trying it.J– With two Majors to their name, Lynx Parallax irons are steeped in professional golf tour history – but for 2017 the marque is reborn with a new emphasis on game improvement for the amateur player. My guitar has two pickups that run simultaneously into the same amp, a soundhole and a internal piezo. You can tailor the pickup to sound exactly how you want rather than relying on someone in a factory to get it right. In fact, if you like your guitar and the way it sounds I thoroughly recommend it. So yes, you can absolutely install a pickup on your guitar. One thing to consider is that if you're looking for the "purest" acoustic tone a mic is going to capture it best. You could also go for a microphone, but that's a whole other ball game that I won't go into right now. Just something to look into if you find a pickup you like the look of! Quite a few pickups come with them, some are active and don't require them. ![]() The downside is you can see them and finding a place to keep the jack can be a pain.Īnother thing to consider is that you may need a pre-amp to go with your pickup. The main advantage of these is that you can attach them yourself. I don't have much experience with these I'm afraid, I only know that the Schaller Oyster pickup and Peterman external pickups are quite good. These are ones that you can attach to your soundboard on the outside of the guitar with a special type of putty. The other type of piezo pickup/contact mic is an external pickup. Heaps of players like Jon Gomm and Don Ross recommend them. If you wish to go this way I would have to recommend K & K pickups. Additionally the end pin at the bottom of your guitar will generally have to be removed and a bigger hole drilled to make room for the pickup jack. Finding the "sweet spot" where it sounds the best can be difficult and time consuming. If you decide you want one of these, get a luthier to install it. They are either a contact mic or piezo pickup attached to the soundboard inside the guitar, usually near the bridge. ![]() These are generally what acoustic/electrics come with stock. However, there is two different types you can get that I'll quickly outline:įirst is an internal pickup. There are so many of these that I can't possibly make a 100% solid recommendation as people tend to prefer different tones. There's a lot of heated discussion regarding which is better but there is a consensus that these sound more natural than a soundhole pickup that is to say a soundhole pickup sounds more like an electric guitar (great for distortion as they tend to feedback less). You're other options are piezo pickups and contact mics. To be honest I bought a $15 Belcat soundhole pickup and am quite happy with it, although I use it in combination with the pickup my guitar came with. They're very easy to install and I believe not permanent. ![]() I'd at least recommend trying a soundhole pickup, much like this one. I'd generally recommend buying an acoustic guitar without a pickup that you like the sound of over one with a pickup that you like less.ĭepending on the pickup they're either very easy to install or quite tricky. You can absolutely install a pickup, depending on what sound you're after. ![]()
